Little Eyolf is a brilliant soap opera and a brutal look at marital and sibling relationships. Only four characters in this marvellously engrossing Ibsen's play. Every line and sentence in this play challenges not just characters involved but us audience in examining motives to our actions and the values of our own lives. Do we have any ultruistic ambitions in life? Should we accomplish projects useful to mankind to make our lives worthwhile? With mountains and fjords as the beautiful backdrop to the drama, one is reminded that in the quiet and tranquil beautiful Norweigan landscape, we could still witness such stormy drama with these sweet shy Norwegians. No doubt when Ibsen wrote the play in 1890, the idea of marital seperation once the love is gone in a reationship would chalange the social mores of Ibsen's times. By stating a change in marital relationship was law gives the impression that Ibsen believed that the love or devotion between spouses would inevitably disappear with time if there was any in the first place. Ibsen believed that relations within the blood such as siblings would comparatively be more unchanging.Product details

Little Eyolf Henrik Ibsen 9781141628919 Books Reviews
An interesting play. Ibsen does know how to do characters!
The play is great in addressing all the pitfalls of marriage. Just what I expected it to be. Unfortunately the text has been created using OCR technology and there are a great many typos that have resulted from this. Although this was quite distracting when reading, it did provide some amusement in figuring out what the actual word should be from the obviously incorrect one "What leave you got there, Asta" to "What have you got there, Asta" followed by "Some black crap" to "Some black crape." But how can you argue with the price $.99.
